It is also known as male and female pattern baldness. Many treatments for androgenetic alopecia will also help with other forms of hair loss, but they should be used only upon the recommendation of your dermatologist.

What are some treatment options we offer for hair loss?

Platelet Rich Plasma/Fibrin (PRP/PRF)

Platelet Rich Fibrin, or PRF, is a procedure done at Magnolia Dermatology by your provider. We extract platelet rich plasma from your own blood and convert it to platelet rich fibrin prior to injection to allow for prolonged release of growth factors. These growth factors stimulate hair growth. Several treatment regimens have been proposed, but the most effective regimen to date is monthly injections for 3 months followed by maintenance treatments as needed every 6 to 12 months.

Medical Therapy

Medical therapy may consist of medications such as finasteride, dutasteride, minoxidil, and for women only, spironolactone. These medications can be taken orally or compounded topically. These medications can be extremely helpful, but early treatment is critical to the success. The highest response rates occur with combination therapy. Combining treatment modalities produces a synergistic response due to their different mechanisms of action. Treatment must be continued for at least six to twelve months in order to evaluate response to therapy and must be continued indefinitely to maintain results.
