Botox Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable neuromodulator that prevents muscle movement. Once injected, Botox interferes with the nerve signals between the brain and the muscles that cause facial movement. This prevents the skin on top of the muscle from creasing. Within days, the skin starts to relax and soften. The skin appears smoother and more youthful.

By targeting muscle movement, Botox can also help prevent new wrinkles. Botox is ideal for fine lines, as it can slow wrinkle formation.

Can Botox treat all types of wrinkles?

Botox treats dynamic wrinkles or expression lines. Dynamic wrinkles develop from repeated muscle movement. They’re more likely to develop in the top one-third portion of the face than in the lower areas. The most popular Botox treatment areas include:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines between the eyebrows
  • Bunny lines on the nose
  • Marionette lines

Since Botox targets muscle movement, Dr. Robare can use it to perform a nonsurgical brow lift and tighten necklines. Botox can also help relieve pain in the jaw’s masseter muscles and slim their appearance for a slimmer jawline.

Botox cannot treat static wrinkles, which develop from volume loss. As your skin ages, it starts to hollow and sag without its youthful volume. By restoring this lost volume, dermal fillers can smooth the appearance of static wrinkles. Dr. Robare and the team offer a wide range of dermal fillers for their patients.

What can I expect from Botox treatments?

Botox treatments only take a few minutes to perform. Once Dr. Robare and the team map out your treatment areas, they carefully perform your injections. A topical anesthetic is available to numb your skin during treatment, but the procedure shouldn’t feel overly painful.

How long does it take to see results from Botox?

Botox results take about seven days to form, but you may see visible skin improvements within a couple of days of your procedure. Dr. Robare and the team also offer the neuromodulators Dysport® and Jeuveau® (Newtox), which may produce faster results in some patients.

How long do Botox results last?

After your treatment, you can enjoy your Botox results for about 3-6 months. Once the medication gradually fades, you can return to the clinic for maintenance treatments. Combining your treatment with dermal fillers, chemical peels, and medical-grade skin care products can enhance and extend your results.
