Moles & Warts Treatment in Bridgeland & Cypress, TX

Moles and warts may be harmless, but they might be a telltale sign of an underlying problem. If you’ve noticed the presence of skin growths in your body, learning about the difference between these two types of benign tumors can help you determine what they are, and if further dermatology treatment is needed.

To treat your moles and warts and avoid severe problems like skin cancer, you can book your appointment with board-certified dermatologist Dr. Samantha Robare at Magnolia Dermatology.

Moles & Warts: Beyond The Growth

Moles and warts are skin growths that appear on any part of your body, and are mostly harmless. However, they can also act as the sign of a severe health problem, or can lead to having one if left untreated. Moles are far more common than warts, but the difference is that moles can evolve into skin cancer tumors, while warts can cause pain and discomfort over time.

Key Differences Between Moles & Warts

Moles

they are pigmented skin growths, made of a collection of melanocytes, which are skin cells that produce pigment. Most of them are brown or black-colored, yet they can also replicate the patient’s skin color or even appear dark blue. Most patients develop them before the age of 25, and once they appear they change over time. If they grow too fast, change color or start showing asymmetrical borders, it could indicate skin cancer.

Warts

They are skin-colored growths that show up on any part of the body, but are mostly common within the hands, elbows, knees and feet. Unlike moles, warts can be contagious, especially in case of having genital warts. The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common cause of warts.

What causes moles & warts?

Moles develop due to melanocytes clustering together instead of spreading across the skin. If you have multiple moles, it’s probably a condition that runs in your family. Another common cause amongst patients is constant sun exposure. On the other hand, human papillomavirus is the most common cause of warts, spreading throughout the skin across the arms and legs. Plantar warts are also contagious, a virus that thrives in wet environments like pools or locker rooms.
