GentleCure uses Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy (IG-SRT), a type of radiation specifically used to treat non-melanoma skin cancers. At Magnolia Dermatology, during each treatment session, you will sit in a chair and one of our professionals will apply ultrasound gel in the area affected by cancer. Then, using an imaging wand, we will take a detailed image of the cancer on the screen that you will be able to see comfortably from the chair. That image will be used to measure the size and shape of the tumor, allowing our expert to define the affected area and calculate the precise dose of treatment.
Precise Treatment
When the imaging step is completed, our professional will place the arm of the IG-SRT device over the treatment area, to apply the exact dose of X-ray energy necessary to treat the site affected by skin cancer—without harming the healthy tissue that surrounds it.
Short Treatment Sessions
Each treatment session only takes about 15-20 minutes, starting from the moment you walk in the door to the time you leave the office. You will be required to come back several times a week for short treatment sessions, and after 4-to-7 weeks, your treatment will be complete.
